A Week of Celebrations!

The last week of the year is the season of multiple celebrations in the Life Sciences department. With Festivus, Christmas and our Tropical Butterfly House’s birthday, it’s been party, party, party!

On Monday December 23rd, the Life Sciences staff brought out the Festivus pole for the naked mole rats. As in the past, there were the usual Feats of Strength and Airing of Grievances but alas, no Festivus Miracle this year.

Pacific Science Center was closed on December 25th so staff and volunteers could observe Christmas with friends and family. However, that doesn’t mean our animals are neglected. Lead Animal Caretaker Lauren came in and made sure everyone was well taken care of. As a special treat and enrichment for the naked mole rats, Lauren created an edible Christmas tree.

PSC reopened Thursday December 26, which is the fifteenth birthday of our Tropical Butterfly House. In honor of the occasion, Discovery Corps Supervisor Portia and Volunteer Terry created a Hobbit inspired birthday cake of fruit for the butterflies. We hope it will be enjoyed throughout the week. Drop by and see it!
